Even though the temperature is still mild, the days are getting shorter. It’s time to take advantage of coffee discounts!
Even though it’s a rather ordinary week for the number of discounts offered at our merchants, a few offers stand out for their rarity and generosity. For the fight of the flyers, this week, the big winner is Super C, with a good lead.
So I start with coffee. The Van Houtte brand, in a 908g container, is available for $14.96 at Metro. We haven’t seen Van Houtte coffee cheaper since March, and only once at this price since. So it’s a great rarity! Note that the usual price is $24 almost everywhere. You might as well replenish your reserves for the winter.
In fruits and vegetables, it is the time of year when Quebecers depend more on imports. Thus, Peruvian blueberries, offered in large 551ml containers, are offered at $2.22 (member price) at IGA.
As for blueberries, we benefited from great discounts in July and August, but since then, this week’s offer stands out as the best deal on the market. Note: Maxi offers blueberries in 170g format at $1.75, which is also very interesting.
Still in fruit, mangoes are on sale at $4.99 for 2kg (member price) at IGA as well. However, the offer is limited to Friday and Saturday. For the Ataulfo variety, it is between 8 and 10 mangoes per 2kg. This gives us a very low cost price for this fruit, where the best deals in circulars are usually around $1.
Good time to stock up
Let’s move on to proteins, with Sans Nom bacon in a 500g package available for $3.99 at Maxi. For 500g, regardless of the brand, this is the best price since October 2023. Consumers were able to buy it at a penny more expensive last July; it was, at the time, our best price of the year for this format. Stock up!
Still at Maxi, you get ground chicken in a one-pound tray for $3. In an environment where beef is expensive, this product represents a leaner option. And at this price, you have to take advantage of it. Especially since, for this product, I notice a scarcity effect, because we see this discount approximately every two months, most often at Maxi.
Finally, the 410g canned Cordon Bleu stew retails for $1.99 at Super C. We have seen this product for $2 a few times in recent months. Some offers differed by just a penny. This week, we are benefiting from the best price in two and a half years, within two cents of our best price ever recorded.
I finish with the packages of frozen Shaker tartares (salmon or tuna) offered for $7.99 at Metro. I remember recently pointing out some improvement in the frequency of discounts on prepared tartares, with each grocer having its own exclusive brand. But this week, for the Shaker brand and in this format, it is our best price ever recorded, by a good margin. On the other hand, once again, the circular specifies “From”. It must be concluded that the varieties could be limited in store.
