Poutine is an emblematic dish of Quebec, a symbol of conviviality and comfort. Appeared in the 1950s, it combines three basic ingredients: crispy fries, cheese curds (which “squeak-scouic” in your teeth) and a creamy brown sauce. This dish was born in rural canteens and quickly spread to become a staple of Quebec cuisine. Today, it comes in an infinite number of ingredient variations and embodies the festive and inclusive spirit of Quebec.
Its success goes beyond borders, it took two people from Liège to open a poutine consulate in the heart of Le Carré. “ A friendly, invigorating dish with ingredients that everyone knows… » We said to ourselves that there was a small market in Liège, say Elie Rentier and Maxime Pirard, the two 28-year-old HEC Liège alumni who opened Elie & Max’s Poutines in the spring of this year. It was also their end-of-studies project, after traveling to Quebec. And the concept works. “It fits well with the Liège spirit. We have large tables, a friendly and comforting atmosphere and we no longer feel hungry when we leave. With real quality since almost everything is homemade.”
The fries are cut on site and the sauce is made by them. As for the famous cheese that is a little firm to the bite, the two friends developed the product with a local cheese factory. Not to mention their pulled pork recipe. The restaurant also offers the opportunity to discover a range of Quebec products: maple products, microbrewery beers, ice wine or even pogos (these smoked sausages coated in batter, all planted on a stick).
In short, a good place to feel like you’re traveling inexpensively and to settle your stomach in the cold of winter. For an audience of students, young workers or even families.
