Finally some good news on the financial side. While tax collections have been coming one after the other for several months (property tax, housing tax, income taxes, etc.), the paradigm is reversing for some in January 2025.

If you benefit from reductions or tax credits, you will receive 60% of their amount from January 15, 2025. Unless you decide otherwise.

The General Directorate of Public Finance allows you to modify the amount of your advance (and even waive it altogether). You have until Thursday December 12, 2024 to do this in your particular space on the tax website.

What is the point of changing your lead?

Does a cleaning lady come to your house regularly? Do you make donations to an association? Do your children go to daycare or crèche, or do you pay accommodation costs in a nursing home? You are affected by tax reductions or credits, like nine million French households.

Without action on your part, the 60% advance will be automatically paid into your account
bank on January 15. Which may not suit you.

Indeed, in the case where your expenses have decreased in 2023 compared to 2022it may be in your interest to return part of this advance, or even to waive it if you no longer have to pay this type of fee at all. If you no longer have a nanny for your children since the start of the 2024 school year, for example.

The objective? Avoid overpaying in January 2025 and therefore have a reimbursement to make next summer.

How to do it?

Once connected to your particular space on the tax site, go to the “Withholding tax” tab, as indicated on the tax site in an explanatory note. A summary table of your payments is then displayed. Below, you should see a blue button “Manage your advance tax reductions and credits”.

Press the “edit my advance” button. It is enough to'indicate the estimated amount of your reductions or tax credits for your 2023 expenses. The advance is automatically recalculated.

We still need to have an idea of its estimate. Here again, the tax site is well done. To the right of your screen you should find a income tax calculation simulator to make your life easier. All that remains is to check that your bank details are correct.

If you wish to waive your advance, click on the button that offers you this. A confirmation email will be sent to you and therefore, you will not receive an advance in January 2024. Also note that in the event of an error, you can modify your advance again.
