The annual ball of health insurer changes for the year 2025 is in full swing, with the registration deadline running until the end of November. Each year, nearly 8% of policyholders decide to change fund, often after consulting online comparators. However, many of these sites do not present all of the offers from insurance companies straight away, RTS noted on Tuesday.
Thus, only a dozen insurance companies are highlighted in the Comparis basic ranking, either through direct advertising or through a link which directly allows you to request an offer. Reacting to questions from RTS, specialist in the field at Comparis Felix Schneuwly explains that this is not a deception for Internet users. “We’ve always done it like this and people are used to it. They know what we see and what we don’t see on the site.” He adds that Internet users are looking for speed and simplicity through the use of online comparison sites.
Risk to financial health
This fragmentation of offers is partly explained by the desire of certain insurers not to appear at the top of search results, fearing a wave of new policyholders. Because winning more contracts implies an increase in administrative costs for the funds. An increase in the number of policyholders can also lead to an overload of customer services.
Requested by the RTS, Concordia explains that it is “very attentive to the growth of its customer base” and explains its choice not to appear spontaneously during certain searches out of concern to maintain its good financial health. It believes, among other things, that it is attracting enough new policyholders through its own commercial services.
Another explanation for this phenomenon lies in the agreements concluded between insurers and comparative platforms. Because most comparators receive commissions for any new contract placed via their site. “Comparis has thus achieved annual turnover in recent years around LaMal of between 6 and 10 million francs,” notes the RTS.
