This free app blocks touts

Tired of your phone ringing all the time because of callers? A young butcher, annoyed by this harassment, has developed a free app so that your smartphone remains silent in the face of requests.

Cold calling is a real pain. An operator who offers you new packages, a so-called energy saving expert who encourages you to carry out work, a training organization who wants you to benefit from your CPF… All excuses are good to harass you and have you have to wear. And even if measures have already been taken by the Government to limit the inconvenience, the problem is far from being resolved. And this is not going to get better with all the hacks that have taken place recently, which have resulted in the theft of phenomenal amounts of personal data.

Ryan Moreau, a young 23-year-old butcher from , also suffered this ordeal. One day, while he was discussing these painful cold calls with his colleagues, they suggested that he develop an application, given his interest in coding and tech. Never mind, here it is launched! The young man spent more than two months in his room mastering the JAVA language and coding his tool, before registering it in the Google application store, which took time.

From this hard work was born the Prefix blocker application, downloadable for free from the Google Play Store. It stands out for its ability to automatically block calls from numbers associated with canvassing companies. It goes even further than similar applications because it directly blocks suspicious numbers.

Quoted by Ryan Moreau explains: “My app not only signals that a call is likely to be cold calling but also blocks the call and does not make the phone ring. In addition, it is adjustable and can block calls and numbers on demand.” Because “Prefix blocker” exploits the particularity of the French prefixes assigned to canvassing companies according to the law. However, the young butcher recognizes that certain companies use numbers starting with 06 and 07 to slip through the cracks – because, unlike what we think, the use of these prefixes is not prohibited by law, it is only limited to certain conditions.

The application already has more than 10,000 downloads on the Play Store. Users seem visibly satisfied since it obtains the excellent rating of 4.8 out of 5. One user comments: “Finally an application that works by blocking by prefix! […] There are two or three types of prefixes that I wanted to block, with this app it's done and it works perfectly. Well done and thank you.”

Next, the young man hopes to create an application to block fraudulent SMS messages, but also to develop a piracy video game. However, for the moment he does not want to leave his profession as a butcher, even if he does not refrain from changing in the years to come if a good opportunity presents itself. We wish him good luck for the future!
