Swisscom partners with Ericsson to offer private enterprise 5G networks

Swisscom is launching a private 5G mobile network offer for businesses in Switzerland based on Ericsson’s Dual-Mode Core technology.

Ericsson and Swisscom extend their partnership. While the Swedish company already acts as network equipment supplier for Swisscom’s entire mobile network, the operator is launching a 5G private mobile network (MPN) offer for Swiss companies based on Swisscom’s dual-mode core technology. Ericsson. Sunrise had launched a similar offer in 2023.

“By choosing Ericsson, we have opted for an established and proven network equipment manufacturer with whom we are jointly advancing the topic of private mobile networks with and for businesses in Switzerland,” explains Fredy Portmann, Head of Connected Business Solutions at Swisscom Business Customers.

MPN Private is presented as a standalone offering that can be easily integrated into operational processes, devices and applications, according to Swisscom. The service offers businesses the opportunity to have their own Ericsson Private 5G Core on-site. Together with the internal system, the private mobile network, which can be managed independently, guarantees data-intensive communications, for example from mobile robots. MPN Private is delivered pre-integrated and allows rapid provision of the service for advanced operation as well as protection of sensitive data on site, promises Swisscom.

The private 5G network ensures better efficiency in terms of productivity, costs and energy consumption. “We are seeing strong momentum for private networks,” says Kenneth Ong, Key Account Manager at Ericsson Switzerland. The combination of Swisscom’s powerful and extensive network with Ericsson’s turnkey solutions will open up new possibilities for customers who have understood the value of private networks.
