Blown candle. The very first commercial flight of theA321 XLR (pour Extra Long Range), latest baby from Airbustook place Thursday November 14, 2024.
First flight of the Airbus A321 XLR between Madrid and Boston
Takeoff Madrid, 12:35 p.m., landing Boston, 3:20 p.m. 7 hours 31 minutes of flight precisely to inaugurate the little gem of the aircraft manufacturer based in Toulouse: a single-aisle capable of ensuring long-haul flights.
“Very proud to be the launch operation”
This is the Spanish company Iberia who opened the grand ball, very proud, as reported in a video filmed on board the plane, published on Fly News.
“We are very proud to be the launch operation and that you are the first passengers to make this transatlantic flight in this Spectacular plane manufactured by Airbus. It is one of the most efficient on the market with much lower consumption than is typical for this type of flight,” rejoices the captain.
“This plane also has a better structure and aerodynamics, so that this flight is more comfortable and pleasant,” added the pilot on behalf of the company which wishes to develop its network in this direction.
Barely delivered, already gone
Iberia was indeed the very first to receive the state-of-the-art machine. And it didn't take long for her to get her new toy working. Just two weeks after being delivered, the Spanish national company sent it across the ocean to the United States.
Start of a series of “ new destinations and transoceanic routes”, which had previously been announced by Marco Sansavini, the chairman and CEO of Iberia on Toulouse news.
One plane, one revolution
It must be said that the aircraft equipped with CFM LEAP-1A engines has what it takes to perform some feats. The single-aisle aircraft, surrounded by 182 seats divided into two classes, can provide approximately 11 hours of non-stop flight. A revolution in single-aisle aircraft.
But it is also and above all the reservoir which arouses interest. The A321 XLR can already be operated on 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and offers a “one 30% lower fuel consumption per seat compared to previous generation competing devices, as well asreduction of NOx emissions and noise pollution,” specifies the aircraft manufacturer.
