The western branch of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) will finally be put into service in fall 2025.
Its opening was initially planned for 2024, but in the spring, CDPQ Infra delayed it until next year.
It is finally after the summer that commissioning can take place.
“We are now confident of putting the entire REM into service in the fall of 2025,” indicated the CEO of CDPQ Infra, Jean-Marc Arbaud.
The finalization of work in the Mont-Royal tunnel is planned for this winter so that tests can begin on the entire network.
These will intensify over the summer to allow for dry run and opening to the public in the fall.
Service outages are planned over the coming months on the South Shore branch between Brossard and Central Station outside peak periods to allow integration work to be carried out on the sections towards Deux-Montagnes and Sainte-Anne. -de-Bellevue to the network.
CDPQ Infra estimates that delaying commissioning to 2025 will cost an additional $392 million, bringing the net cost of the project to $8.34 billion.
The commissioning of the section of the network towards the Montreal airport is still planned for 2027.
