The rental value tax, including for second homes, should be abolished. The competent committee of the Council of States joins the National to completely review the housing tax system, after years of standing still.

(Keystone-ATS) According to the National Council, the rental value must be abolished, both for the main dwelling occupied by the owner and for secondary residences. In return, maintenance costs would no longer be deductible and passive interest would only partially be deductible.
Originally, the Council of States did not want to include second homes. The matter got bogged down in Parliament. From now on, in a spirit of compromise, the State Economy Committee accepts the change in system by 9 votes to 4, the Parliament services announced on Tuesday.
On the condition that the cantons have the possibility of levying a special property tax on second homes. The file will be debated during the next winter session.
