The Geneva Fire and Rescue Service (SIS) responded Monday morning to a fire in the second basement of an underground parking lot in a residential building in Champel. The two burning cars caused a significant release of black smoke, disturbing one person.

The alert was given at 8:49 a.m. and the fire was brought under control at 11:00 a.m. thanks to the use of two hoses, said the SIS, which intervened with 25 professional firefighters and seven engines. The smoke caused significant damage to vehicles parked on both levels of the car park.

The SIS remained until 2:05 p.m., the time to clear the premises of smoke using seven powerful fans. One of them was mounted on the new intervention robot, which was thus used for the first time outside of an exercise. According to the SIS, the apartments in the thirteen-story building were not too affected by the smoke.
