Be careful if you intend to buy a second-hand luxury product. Thousands of ads appear every day on different platforms. Tempting offers, but counterfeits and scams are increasing.

Always better imitated, so much so that it can sometimes be difficult to detect counterfeits. However, these are multiplying on second-hand websites. Despite detection systems, buyers are sometimes fooled.

A collector of luxury bags, Medhi Chafik finally found his second-hand favorite on the Vinted platform a few months ago. “Usually, I’m always wary, but then I told myself that it was still a recognized platform. The ad looked very serious, as did the photos”he says. He goes ahead and spends 550 euros. But upon receiving the package, he becomes disillusioned. After alerting the platform, he managed to get a refund. This is not the case for everyone who gets scammed.

According to a study by the Vinted Observatory, 55% of people have already been victims of counterfeiting, all shopping sites combined. When contacted, the company said it employs 200 employees to combat this phenomenon.
