Training in video game development offered in Morocco

(Agence Ecofin) – The video game industry is growing in Morocco too, and the Kingdom aims to become an African hub in this field which, by 2030, could become an important employment niche for young people.

The Moroccan Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication has launched a call for applications for a training program for careers in video game development. The program called “Video Game Creator” will be implemented in collaboration with the French Embassy.

It is presented as a 1-year certified training course in game design, programming, artistic creation and project management. Its objective is to strengthen the professional and managerial skills of young Moroccans in the local video game industry which is indeed growing.

The organization in May 2024 of the Morocco Gaming Expo, a dedicated continental exhibition, confirmed the project aimed at making the Shereef kingdom a hub in this field in Africa. The country is targeting a turnover of 5 billion dirhams by 2030 (around 500 million USD). By the same deadline, it is estimated that gaming will employ 5,000 to 10,000 people.

The training will be held on the campus of the International University of Rabat, partner of the program, with the support of the ISART Digital video game school and the Foundation of the Higher Institute of Audiovisual and Cinema Professions which will take care of the logistics aspect. A scholarship program will cover tuition fees, accommodation and workstations.

To apply, you must hold at least a fundamental license recognized by the State or any equivalent diploma in the fields of computer science, engineering, visual arts or equivalent, and demonstrate a strong motivation to evolve in the gaming sector. Applicants should if possible present a portfolio or project demonstrating technical or creative skills, and successful programming experience is desired.

Applications are taken until November 30. Training begins in January 2025.
