The 10 most anticipated new electric cars in 2025

In 2024, the electric car market is clearly not in good shape. But manufacturers expect a rebound in sales in 2025. The many new features should help bring people to dealerships.

Automobile Propre is getting ahead of the curve and offering you a preview of the models that will mark the coming year. A varied selection of vehicles that have not yet been revealed in their production guisefrom city cars to roadsters and of course SUVs, because there is something for all tastes, all uses and all budgets.

Alpine A390

Alpine opened a new chapter in its history in 2024 with the launch of an electric model, the small A290. The firm with the A arrow will drive the point home in 2025 with the A390, another electric model, which will be aimed at more family customers. Announced by a concept, the A390 will have a rather original silhouette, more fastback than SUV ultimately. If the look will nod to the A110, the shapes will be more angular, notably with a pointed front and triangular optics. The A390 uses the AmpR Medium platform of the Renault Scénic, but its technical sheet will be new, with four-wheel drive and a set of three engines. We therefore expect good powers. The model will be assembled on the historic Dieppe site.

BMW New Class X

Like Mercedes with the CLA (see below), BMW intends to make a new start on the electric market with the “Neue Klasse”, models designed on a dedicated and therefore optimized basis, which will improve the efficiency, autonomy, recharge times and costs. These vehicles will also have a new, more refined design, with some “retro” aspects. If BMW first announced a sedan, it is the SUV which will arrive first in series. This will take over from the iX3 and will thus have the mission of tackling the Tesla Model Y.

Citroen C5 Aircross

In bad shape, Citroën has launched a major offensive in 2024, with the renewal of the C3 and C3 Aircross. It will continue in 2025 with the C5 Aircross. And like the C3, the next generation of the family SUV will be available in 100% electric form. However, there is no question here of having an economic base, we will find the same modern STLA Medium platform as on the 3008. We should rather say the Opel Grandland, because the C5 Aircross will take the base and the structure of the German SUV. But as is now the case with Stellantis, what is seen is specific. The concept unveiled at the Mondial clearly showed that we will have the new style codes of the chevron brand. The electric C5 Aircross will have at least 500 km of autonomy, but doubt remains over the presence of the large 97 kWh battery for a range of 700 km, Citroën now having to play an entry-level role.

Fiat Panda SUV

Fiat is once again on the offensive on the popular car market, with a new Panda family. After the Grande Panda, derived from the Citroën ë-C3, Fiat will follow up with a compact SUV… derived from the new C3 Aircross. The adventurer will be entitled to a specific design, incorporating the new angular shapes inaugurated by the city car. The emphasis will also be placed on low prices. The electric variant is therefore expected from around €27,000 with a range of 300 km. A version with a range of 400 km is also hoped for. At the same time, Fiat is preparing the Fastback, a coupe-style SUV, without equivalent at Citroën.

Let’s EV2

While Kia has just launched the EV3, the brand will continue to move downmarket in terms of electric vehicles with the EV2, which will be priced at less than €30,000. The vehicle still remains very secret, but we can clearly see a small urban SUV, a competitor to the new Renault 4. We also imagine a double battery offer, as is the case with the EV3, with up to 500 km of range. autonomy approx. The EV2 will be produced in Europe, which will give it access to the ecological bonus, if it still exists when it arrives in dealerships! Note that Kia is also preparing an EV4 hatchback for Europe.

Mercedes CLA

Although Mercedes has a vast range of electric cars, sales are not there. The fault lies in technically late products. The brand intends to set the record straight with the next generation of CLA, the first model designed on the MMA platform, which benefits from an 800V architecture. Enough to already provide ultra-fast recharge times. In addition, the car promises a range of 700 km without having an excessive battery, thanks to an efficient engine and careful aerodynamics. The objective is clear: to no longer suffer from comparison with Tesla. In terms of looks, we will be close to the concept unveiled at the end of 2023, still with rounded lines at Mercedes.

Nissan Leaf

We had promised it for 2024, the new Leaf will finally be ready in 2025. The first prototypes with the final silhouette have just been surprised. The future Leaf will therefore become a crossover, SUV coupe style. The look will be close to the Chill Out concept, with for example headlight/grille continuity at the front. The car will be based on the CMF-EV platform already used by the Ariya or the Renault Scénic. We will also find a technical offer similar to the latter, with probably batteries of 60 or 87 kWh, the largest giving a range of at least 620 km. Nissan expects a lot from this model, because the consumer electric pioneer is now in great difficulty in this market. This Leaf will be assembled in the UK, so it will save its bonus.

Porsche 718 Boxster

There is something for all tastes and budgets! Electricity can also take the form of a pleasure car, a high-end roadster. Announced for several years, the new 100% electric generation of the 718 Boxster will finally be ready in 2025. Still a two-seater model with a soft top, the Boxster will adopt the style codes of electric Porsches. The challenge for the brand will be to have a model that is pleasant to drive despite the overweight of the battery. We are not expecting XXL autonomy, but the 800V architecture will allow rapid recharging.

Tesla Model Y Juniper

Rare are the restylings that make an event. But here, we are talking about a star of the electric market, which seemingly was the best-selling car in Europe and in the world in 2023, all energies combined. The developments are eagerly awaited by all those who already have a Model Y, and want to know if it is worth changing vehicles, and by those who have not yet given in. We expect changes similar to those made on the Model 3, particularly in the cabin and on technology, which should improve autonomy. In terms of looks, according to the latest indiscretions, the Model Y will stand out from the 3 with new light bars at the front and rear.

Volkswagen ID.2

This is another model that plays with our patience. While a concept close to the series was shown in March 2023, the definitive ID.2 will be launched in 2025. We will therefore have no surprises in the design, especially since VW will play an assumed classic card. We forget the originalities of the ID family, the brand wants to offer a versatile city car that should please as many people as possible. And for this, the manufacturer has promised a base price below €25,000. This should be done with a range of around 300 km, while an offer with a large battery will also be available. In addition, the ID.2 will put the emphasis back on the quality of finish, after a few deviations which were not to the taste of the brand’s customers.
