IN ASHES – Three wildfires are spreading around Los Angeles, against a backdrop of heatwave, drought and powerful winds in California
Orange hills from which huge flames escape, just a few meters from isolated homes. This is the sad spectacle that residents of the heights of Los Angeles, California, have been witnessing for four days.
Southeast of the city, the accidental fire, dubbed the “Airport Fire,” continues to grow. In the hills and canyons surrounding the city of Lake Elsinore, several homes and vehicles have been burned to the ground.
Multiple fires
On September 11, California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in the region, hoping to speed up authorities’ efforts to combat the multiple wildfires.
“California is deploying all available resources to fight these devastating fires, and we will continue to work closely with our federal and local partners as part of this herculean effort,” he insisted, during a visit to firefighters battling the “Line Fire”, another fire, this time of arson origin, currently underway northeast of Los Angeles.
