The (bad) days follow one another and are similar in the automobile industry. Thus, after the hundreds of temporary temporary jobs not renewed in Rennes, Stellantis has just announced that it will cut 1,100 positions in its Jeep factory, located in Toledo in the United States, in the state of Ohio. The jobs targeted by this wave of layoffs, which will take place from January 5, 2025, concern the southern part of the Toledo factory, where Jeeps are assembled, and which will now only operate with one team instead of twoStellantis said this Thursday. In addition, certain activities, i.e. 400 employees, “will be transferred to an external service provider”.
“Difficult measures… but necessary”
This Stellantis measurement results froma turnover of the group which collapsed during the last quarter of 2024 in North America (-42%, to 12.4 billion euros) and sales which plunged by 20% during this same period to 1.15 million vehicles delivered, in particular due to a drop in sales and promotions launched to reduce vehicle stocks. “These measures are difficult to take, but they are necessary to enable the company to regain its competitive advantage and, ultimately, return its production to previous levels”Stellantis simply explained.
