A company founded in 1967, Les Silos de Port-Cartier will close its doors. The Dreyfus company met with workers this morning to announce the cessation of its operations on December 31, 2024.
Port-Cartier is losing a real economic and social pillar, according to the CSN. The union will do everything possible to defend workers’ rights.
The union calls for solidarity and resilience of the local and regional union community, recalling that this struggle is too often that of everyone in the regions of Quebec.
Shaken families
“It’s a test for the entire region. We know that this closure directly affects families and deeply shakes the community,” says the president of the Conseil central de la Côte-Nord CSN Guillaume Tremblay.
For him, this situation is dismaying: “By choosing the North Shore, this company has benefited for nearly 60 years from a strategic geographic position for international transport and has benefited from local expertise. Whatever the reason for his departure, it will have a major impact in Port-Cartier. »
The local union is committed to supporting members affected by this closure. “We will be there, with the resources of the CSN, to ensure respect for collective agreements and help families,” assures the president of the FEESP-CSN Frédéric Brun.
