Group E is resizing its fiber optic activities by cutting 69 jobs, due to intense competition. The Friborg energy company will close its companies S. Roubaty, in Rossens (FR), and FTH Services, in Romanel-sur-Lausanne (VD) by the end of March.

(Keystone-ATS) “The decision is based on a rigorous economic analysis which revealed insufficient profitability and an economic environment not conducive to the development of these activities,” the group based in Granges-Paccot (FR) said on Tuesday. It follows an “in-depth strategic assessment” of the area.
The Swiss fiber optic infrastructure market has evolved from Fiber To The Street (FTTS) to Fiber To The Home (FTTH), often referred to as the “last mile”. The sector is under increasing pressure, with tight margins and price adjustments imposed by the main players.
The development compromises the profitability of subcontracting companies, the press release specifies. A social plan will be developed in consultation with the Syndicom union.
