Inflation in Belgian supermarkets increased by 3.1% in October 2024, compared to 2.76% in September. This slight increase shows that inflation remains higher than that of January 2022, the first month when it exceeded 2%.
Since January 2022, the average cost of our shopping cart has increased by 27%. Variations in raw material prices naturally influence supermarket prices, with some marked increases, while other products see their prices fall.

Products on the rise
- Olive oil: in October 2022, it cost 9.70 euros. A year later, in 2023, its price reached 11.18 euros. In October 2024, it rose to 12.94 euros.
- Potato croquettes (1 kg): in October 2022, their price was 1.91 euros. In 2023, it increased to 2.03 euros, reaching 2.49 euros in October 2024.
- Dark chocolate (100 g): in October 2022, it cost 1.04 euros. In October 2024, its price rose to 1.55 euros, an increase of 30% compared to 2022, making it one of the products most affected by the price increase.
Revenues down (compared to October 2023)
- Paper products (paper towels, toilet paper): -2%
- Household paper (aluminum, plastic film): -2%
- Cleaning products: -0.5%
These declines remain modest, but show that some products are experiencing downward adjustments, despite an overall upward trend in prices in supermarkets.
