La Poste: a UDC and socialist duo defends the foot of the Jura

Many elected officials and a large part of the population of the Morges district are stunned by the number of postal offices threatened with closure: seven in total. Municipalities as large as Aubonne or Saint-Prex could be deprived of posts.

The trustees concerned deplore the situation and do not hide their anger. But decisions concerning the yellow giant are made in Bern. At the heart of the revolt which was heard throughout the weekend in local demonstrations, there is no longer any question of political politics for federal elected officials active in this region.

This is the case of Jessica Jaccoud, national socialist councilor of Berolle, and her UDC colleague of Montricher Sylvain Freymond, who will have to collect their registered mail in Morges or Cossonay if the restructuring is confirmed. Both are determined to come together to return the package to its sender. “With this project, an entire region is abandoned by the public service,” asserts Jessica Jaccoud, who has also heard very worried residents, in particular seniors who have always been loyal to La Poste, which still allows them to pay their bills. payments – for example – in front of an employee who could help them.

Red line crossed

With closures planned in La Sarraz, L’Isle, Bière, Aubonne and Apples (in addition to Lully and Saint-Prex on the lake), the red line has been crossed. “Go tell the residents of Mollens and Ballens that they will now have to go to the post office in Morges: that makes no sense! The director of La Poste promises that no one has been abandoned and that all offices are accessible within 20 minutes, but I invite him to come and spend a weekend in the region to realize the reality here, at home .”

As for the solution put forward by the yellow giant of finding partners to recover its mandate, it does not convince Sylvain Freymond. “Often, it is the grocery stores that take care of it, but there are also fewer and fewer of them in small villages. And they are very poorly paid for this mission. If they disappear, who will take up the torch?

For the two parliamentarians, the periphery has been forgotten. “Look on a map at the offices that are going to close, it’s impressive! This is a total abandonment from the top of the district! denounces Jessica Jaccoud. With this, the feeling of abandonment and downgrading of local residents will only increase.” And his colleague added: “We feel that they only looked at the figures, without regional anchoring, and this is what it gives.”

Unite the fight

If the fight is unequal, the two politicians hope for awareness and mobilization, both from residents and politicians. “There is a real interest in peripheral regions uniting,” assures the resident of Berolle. I think this will be discussed at the National during the December session, but until then, we are going to meet with the municipalities to define an action plan.

An approach which echoes the first reactions in the villages, such as in Hautemorges where the union member Marie-Christine Gilliéron does not beat around the bush: “In Apples, my window overlooks the post office and I cannot believe that It doesn’t work, because there’s always time to pass. I am delighted to hear what the managers of La Poste will tell us, but we are not going to present ourselves like lambs. We intend to fight not only for our commune, but also for the entire population area at the foot of the Jura.”
