Strike mandate | Negotiations continue at Canada Post

(Montreal) Canada Post says talks are continuing with the union that represents postal workers.

The Crown corporation clarified Sunday that the two parties agreed not to give the required 72-hour notice of strike or lockout “as long as discussions are productive.”

The Union of Postal Workers has been in a strike position since this Sunday, but has not yet sent a strike notice, and Canada Post says that activities are continuing normally.

The Canadian Press tried unsuccessfully to speak to a union representative on Sunday.

Last week, Canada Post presented its latest contractual offer, which included salary increases of 11.5% over four years.

The union announced earlier in the week that its members had voted overwhelmingly in favor of a strike if an agreement was not reached at the bargaining table.

Federal Labor Minister Steven MacKinnon met last Thursday with the union and Canada Post management to encourage them to reach a negotiated agreement.
