what you need to know for your Agirc-Arrco pension

We are arriving at the most important time of the year for retirees who receive the Agirc-Arrco supplementary pension. The month of November is generally anecdotal for the French. It's just interesting because it starts with a public holiday.

But for some seniors, it is an important month for purchasing power. In fact, it is in November that supplementary pensions benefit from an increase in line with inflation. And if the government is already talking about postponing the indexation of basic pensions, this is not the case for Agirc-Arrco. Like every year, it is in November that they will increase. But by how much?

An annual revaluation for supplementary pensions

Retirees are used to this annual revaluation. For them, it is both logical and essential. Indeed, this adjustment allows them to fight inflation more easily. And for good reason, the amount of the pension evolves following the path of the evolution of prices.

In 2023, retirees then benefited from a nice increase of 4.9%. The increase was obviously logical, since inflation was breaking records. However, the latter has continued to slow down since January.

Today, fortunately, it is more moderate. Its rate, at the time of writing, is 1.8%. We are far from this inflation above 5% that we suffered a few months ago. In other words, prices continue to rise, but less quickly. To protect retirees, the supplementary pension is therefore increasing.

A relative increase in 2024

Due to lower inflation, the increase will be less in 2024. In fact, the Board of Directors opts for an increase of 1.6%. An increase slightly below inflation, therefore.

This level of revaluation represents a burden of 1.6 billion euros per year for the regime, i.e. a total cost estimated at 24 billion euros over a period of 15 years. But why does the increase in supplementary pensions not correspond exactly to the rate of inflation?

The answer is simple. The Board of Directors of Agirc-Arrco takes into account the provisions of article 4 of the national inter-professional agreement (ANI), which specifies that between 2024 and 2026, the revaluation must follow the evolution of prices at non-tobacco consumption, reduced by a sustainability factor of 0.40 points. They finally opt for a lesser subtraction, by 0.2 points. Enough to relieve retirees, who feared an even lower increase.

14 million people will see their pension increase

This decision concerns 14 million private sector retirees. They will notice the difference from November 4, and it is exceptional. Indeed, they will not receive the pension on the 1st, since it is a public holiday. However, the latter precedes a Saturday and a Sunday. So, you will have to show a little patience.

Concerning the increase in basic retirement pensions, seniors are still waiting. Michel Barnier's desire is to delay this increase until July. But the deputies make it known that they disagree with this proposal, on the left as on the right.

The debates in the National Assembly will, we hope, allow us to find a solution that will not endanger finances most precarious.
