A detention officer working in La Brénaz (GE) provided drugs and telephones to detainees. He was arrested by the police (IGS) at the beginning of the week. Since Tuesday, he has been incarcerated at Champ-Dollon prison awaiting his trial.
Obviously, the facts are serious. “There are sometimes suspicions, but for the arrest to take place in the workplace, as was the case, there needs to be evidence. It’s true,” confides a connoisseur of this type of case.
Here, the facts relating to narcotics relate to large quantities. It is these which have aroused suspicion, while hundreds of prohibited objects and doses of drugs are flushed out each year by the guards: introducing such volumes seemed impossible without the existence of internal complicity .
Before being stationed at La Brénaz, the defendant had worked at the Curabilis prison-hospital. If his arrest is surprising, in the profession, not everyone is surprised. “I remain convinced that others did it but fell through the cracks,” says a guard.
The previous similar case of importance dates back around ten years. From 2011 to 2016, a guard from Champ-Dollon sold drugs and provided phones to inmates, but also carried out financial transactions on their behalf. It was undercover agents who helped bring him down. Found guilty of passive corruption, money laundering and drug violations, he was sentenced to 30 months in prison, including 6 months.
