Egyptian actor Mustafa Fahmy died in the early hours of Wednesday, at the age of 82, after a long battle with cancer, reports the Egyptian daily Al Masry Al Yaoum.
Sources close to actor Hussein Fahmy, brother of the deceased, confirmed that Mustafa Fahmy was admitted to hospital following a serious health crisis. After several examinations, doctors authorized his return home to continue his convalescence, we read in the same article.
However, around 11 p.m. last night, Mustafa Fahmy’s health suddenly deteriorated. His family immediately contacted medical services in the hope of rushing him to hospital. Unfortunately, he died before help arrived.
The daily specifies that Mustafa Fahmy underwent delicate brain surgery last August to remove a tumor. Since then, his health had gradually weakened, reaching a critical point in recent hours.
The death of Mustafa Fahmy, emblematic figure of Egyptian cinema and younger brother of actor Hussein Fahmy, currently president of the Cairo International Film Festival, has been confirmed by the Union of Egyptian Theatrical Professions.
