With this new Audi A5, get ready to say goodbye to the A4

After thirty years of service, the A4 sedan is leaving following the brand’s new nomenclature: the pair cars are now electric and the pair thermal.

This is how its replacement, the A5, remains faithful to combustion engines. It’s actually a cross between the A4 and the A5, and it shows in the choice of silhouette.

Thus, this A5 is a five-door since the trunk gives way to a tailgate. It thus adopts a more slender line and at the same time allows itself to grow to peak at 4.83 m long. At the front, the grille is more assertive, the headlights are refined and a light strip runs across the entire width of the tailgate, like on many models currently on the market.

For its part, the Avant station wagon retains a profile close to what we have found at Audi for several years, a recipe that works very well.

The Audi A5 is also available as a sedan, but the Avant station wagon is expected to account for 70% of sales.

Inside, everything is new, well almost. This A5 no longer has anything to do with the A4, but shares its interior with other models of the brand. The dashboard is rather massive, an effect accentuated by the digital panel bringing together two screens, an 11.9-inch instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch touchscreen. That’s not all since the passenger can benefit from their own screen 10.9 inches.

Rear passengers won’t miss the old A4. Thanks to its wheelbase of 2.90 mthe space offered to them is appreciable, unheard of in the family with rings. On the other hand, if access to the trunk is better, its volume does not work miracles, varying from 445 to 1,299 liters for the sedan and from 476 to 1,424 liters for the station wagon.

Trunk volume is not the A5 Avant’s strong point, but it benefits from square shapes.

Under the hood, this A5 accommodates a 2.0 TFSI of 150 and 204 hp and a 2.0 TDI of 204 hp as well. The latter benefits from a 48V micro-hybridization with 24 hp and 230 Nm of torque. At the top of the basket, the S5 can count on its V6 3.0 essence de 367 ch to quickly escape from the toll gates.

Finally, there remains one element that is at least important, that of prices. This A5 starts at €45,500 with the 2.0 TFSI reaching €79,750 in the S5 version. To take advantage of the Avant station wagon, you have to put your hand in your pocket, to the tune of €1,500.

The plunging hood refines the nose of this A5.

I don’t like

The large panel bringing together the two screens is well placed, but its integration is average.


The Caradisiac moment: the A5 already on trial

The new Audi A5 has just been presented, but it is already possible to get behind the wheel at the test center located in Hall 7. One is a TFSI quattro version equipped with the S tronic 7 automatic transmission.
