Four people died on Saturday evening in the accident of a Tesla electric car, which caught fire on a departmental road in Deux-Sèvres, we learned this Sunday from the gendarmerie. The accident occurred around 10:45 p.m. Saturday evening near Melle, about twenty kilometers east of Niort.

The Niort public prosecutor’s office declared that it currently had “no information concerning the causes of the accident”. “An investigation has been opened in order to determine the causes and circumstances of the fatal accident, an investigation during which the expertise of the vehicle is requested,” said the duty magistrate.
The vehicle hit several panels
The four people on board the vehicle were “already dead when help arrived,” the gendarmerie said.
The driver was from Niort and the three passengers were employees of a restaurant in Melle, said the other source close to the gendarmerie. “The identification of the victims is being verified,” said the prosecution.
According to the first elements of the investigation, the vehicle hit several road signs at high speed.
