What traffic restrictions should we expect?

Traffic will be banned on several roads in the 8th, 16th and 17th arrondissements of the capital. Parking bans are also expected.

End the party in style. To close the beautiful chapter of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, a grand parade of French athletes is being organized on Saturday on the most beautiful avenue in the world, the Champs-Élysées. This parade will start at 4 p.m. and end at 6 p.m., before a formal sequence in the presence of Emmanuel Macron around 7 p.m. on the Place de l’Étoile, where a giant concert will then take place from 9 p.m. to midnight. This event, described by Thierry Reboul, the creative director of Paris 2024, as “the fifth ceremony of the Games”will induce some traffic restrictions during the day on Saturday in Paris.

A decree from the Paris police prefecture, issued on Tuesday, specifies the outlines. First, parking is prohibited for all vehicles on part of Avenue Carnot from Wednesday to Sunday noon, as well as in “certain ways” from the 7th, 8th and 16th arrondissements, from Friday to Sunday noon. This includes Avenue Hoche, Avenue de la Grande Armée, Avenue Marceau, Rue Galilée and Avenue Dutuit.

Then, traffic ban zones have already been in place since Wednesday on certain roads in western Paris. The first zone includes certain roads in the 8th arrondissement, located between the Franklin D. Roosevelt station and the Arc de Triomphe, from Wednesday to Thursday evening, as well as “Avenue Carnot, between Place Charles de Gaulle and Rue de Tillsitt”.

Similarly, traffic is prohibited from Thursday evening to Saturday 11am, then Sunday, from 2am to noon. In particular, this perimeter includes the Champs Elysées roundabout, Rue de Berri, Avenue Montaigne, and Avenue Marceau.

Traffic is finally interrupted over a large area of ​​the 8th, 16th and 17th arrondissements from September 14 at 11 a.m. to September 15, 2024 at 2 a.m. This area extends from Porte Maillot to Concorde, along Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré to the north and part of the Seine quays to the south. Motorized traffic will also be prohibited on Pont Alexandre III, during the same hours. Voie George Pompidou will remain open to traffic.

For its part, the RATP has announced, for the time being, the closure of only one station: Charles de Gaulle-Etoile, on metro lines 1, 2 and 6, as well as on the RER A. Bus lines also remain modified, until the end of September. It is better to keep an eye on the dedicated website of the authority, which may change.
