The Provisions building sold for $2.1 million: the new owner wants to keep the vocation of the grocery store

The Provisions grocery store, on Cartier Avenue in Quebec City, marks another chapter in its history with the arrival of a new owner, the company Habitations JFP, which has just acquired the building for the sum of 2 $.1 million. Its president has already indicated that he wishes to continue the vocation of the place.

The deed of sale was notarized on October 8 under private court supervision. The new buyer was represented by Jean-François Picard, president of this real estate company.

The sale price is $2.1 million including $100,000 for movable property. The closure of the grocery store at the beginning of the year and the hasty return of its owners to without further explanation have caused a lot of ink to flow in recent months. Last September, businessman Jean-François Picard confirmed to the Journal that he had won the purchase offer he had submitted following the sale of this asset on the market.

Mr. Picard, who works mainly in the real estate field, lives “a stone’s throw” from Cartier Avenue.

“We really want to bring back what it was and it’s everyone converging towards the same thing. There were citizen surveys, business surveys. I did my little homework, then it’s a grocery store that goes there,” he said.

“It brought life, it brought a beautiful magic also because it was very family-friendly. This is what we want to bring back to life,” he added.

A recovery hoped for in the coming months

Mr. Picard wanted to be able to relaunch the grocery store before Christmas.

A true institution, Provisions was closed without notice on January 19 by owner Stéphanie Guessas Bouillon and her partner Christophe Bouillon.

The latter took over the torch from the Drouin family in 2022, having administered the family business for more than 70 years.

In May, the couple from France was ordered to pay $450,000 to their predecessors.
