Vodafone and Google have just announced a 10-year strategic partnership to transform the telecommunications landscape through artificial intelligence (AI) and connected devices. The multibillion-dollar deal aims to deploy advanced AI technologies and improve digital services across Europe and Africa.
As part of this collaboration, Vodafone will make Google Pixel devices available to its customers, equipped with enhanced AI capabilities using Google’s Gemini generative models. By combining these devices with its high-speed 5G network, Vodafone aims to deliver an enriched user experience for millions of consumers. The aim is to allow users to benefit from more intuitive and personalized services, such as content search on Vodafone TV, which will be improved using Google Cloud AI tools.
The partnership is not limited to mobile devices. Vodafone also plans to launch next-generation cybersecurity services using Google Cloud’s Security Operations platform. This solution will enable Vodafone’s enterprise customers to better detect and respond to cyber threats through enhanced data processing capabilities. Additionally, Vodafone will use Google’s Vertex AI platform to accelerate the development and deployment of AI-based applications, without the need for specific training data.
This partnership places Google in a strong position in the European AI market, a sector where strict regulations have held back other players like OpenAI. By collaborating with Vodafone, Google aims to circumvent these barriers and expand the use of its AI solutions in Europe, while increasing the competitiveness of its products against those of Apple and other competitors.
Margherita Della Valle, Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone, highlighted the importance of this partnership, saying: “Together, Vodafone and Google will put new AI-powered content and devices in the hands of millions of consumers. These services will enable our customers to discover new ways to learn, create and communicate, as well as consume television content on an unprecedented scale.
