Physical attack, shutdown of production lines: tense atmosphere in the Valeo factory in -Isère

“Nothing will ever be the same again.” For the unions, Valeo management in Saint-Quentin-Fallavier crossed a red line on Friday October 4. Three union delegates accuse the human resources manager of physical assault. “We felt ourselves grabbed by the shoulder and thrown backwards, explains Pierre-Ange Carmona, of the Autonomous Confederation of Labor. My colleague Kader was thrown against a trolley and he pushed my colleague Serge.” Complaints were filed by union officials. When contacted, Valeo did not respond to our requests.

More than 40% of employees on sick leave

This attack denounced by the unions comes a few days after the launch of an indefinite strike on September 30. The objective is to shut down strategic production lines. “They see that their production is not coming out, they are not delivering to customers so they are on their knees,” believes Pierre-Ange Cardona. Of the approximately 330 employees on the site, more than 40% of them are on sick leave, and 5 to 10% are on strike. A movement to change the mind of management who wishes to relocate production abroad.

“The climate is very anxiety-provoking,” adds Pierrette Nocito, elected to the CSE (social and economic committee) and responsible for analyzing logistics flows. Even more since the arrival in recent days of employees from Étaples-sur-Mer (Pas-de-) and Sablé-sur- (Sarthe)other sites of the automotive supplier. “They are not saying that they want to break the strike, they are saying that these ten people are coming to replace people on sick leave, and that they have the right to do so.” If they do not support the approach, they believe that it must go through an extraordinary CSE scheduled for this Friday, October 11.
