Morocco plans to invest $24.5 million in local start-ups

In the first half of 2024, Moroccan startups captured $14 million, according to Africa: The Big Deal. The State has decided to also support them through its national digital strategy.

Ghita Mezzour (photo), Minister responsible for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, announced an investment of 240 million dirhams (approximately $24.5 million) to stimulate innovation and support local start-ups . She made this outing on Tuesday October 8 on the sidelines of the opening of the 6e edition of the African Digital Summit in Casablanca.

“We have allocated a budget of 240 MDH to stimulate national demand for innovative services, by favoring purchases from local start-ups and opening the doors to outsourcing for them, so that they can export their solutions beyond of our borders”, A text message.

This initiative comes as African start-ups find it increasingly difficult to attract capital. It is part of the “Digital Morocco 2030” strategy, one of the objectives of which is to boost the local technological ecosystem. According to data from Partech Africa, Moroccan start-ups captured $33 million in 2021, $26 million in 2022 and $93 million in 2023.

State support will promote a strengthening of the technological entrepreneurial fabric, stimulate job creation, attract foreign investors and strengthen the Shereef kingdom as a regional technological hub.
