prices, equipment, all the information on board the 7-seater Tiguan

The second version of the Volkswagen Tiguan launched in 2016 was available from spring 2017 in the form of a 7-seater version called Tiguan Allspace. The latter will not be replaced, at least in this form. But the brand will not abandon this niche popular with large families. Lhe role of troop transport will be taken on by the Volkswagen Tayron in March 2025.

A new model designed and manufactured in Germany in the Wolfsburg factory, the historic headquarters of the brand. Gone is the stretched body of the Tiguan, make way for an entirely new plastic, no bodywork elements are shared. This is evidenced by the cutout of the hood on the top of the wings which is specific to the Tayron and the hockey stick shape of the quarter panel. In fact, the Tayron has a length of 4.77 m, or 23 cm more than the Tiguan.

An exclusive dress

Even its glazing is specific to it, we are told at Volkswagen, in order to offer a dynamic and balanced silhouette.. A strategy that its French rivals do not share, the Peugeot 5008 taking over the entire front cell of the 3008, the same in the camp opposite for the Renault Espace whose cabin up to the mid-foot of the body is that of an Austral . The heir to the minivan pioneer who moved to SUVs was still entitled to a specific grille.

Compared to those who chose pooling, Volkswagen appears to be the one who put in the resources. The Tayron is also the very first from the brand to feature a luminous logo, both front and rear. For the record, the restyled Touareg debuted the illuminated rear emblem while the facelifted Golf 8 inaugurated the grille one.

An air of déjà vu on board

In the cabin, VW has obviously streamlined the furniture. The dashboard of the Tayron is none other than that of the new Tiguan which is also partly shared by the new Passat. In front of the driver is a 10.25-inch digital panel which is associated, on the most high-end finishes, with a 15-inch touch screen highlighted by backlit touch keys whose ergonomics have already been criticized since their arrival. at the time on board the ID.3 and Golf 8. Note that the entry-level VW Tayron has a 12.9-inch multimedia screen.

At the foot of the central console, storage accommodates two smartphones which are recharged by induction then there is a rotary dial allowing either to adjust the audio volume or to configure the driving mode. Still on the high-end finish, the one lacquered in the purple color specific to the launch of the model, real wood veneer enhances the furniture – the Tiguan is deprived of this – as does the two-tone upholstery which brings light into the passenger compartment.

A spacious second row

The sliding bench seat and the well-arranged armrest will be appreciated in the back of the Volkswagen Tayron.© Volkswagen

Au second rang, the wheelbase increased by 12 cm compared to a Tiguan is appreciable as is the sliding bench seat over a width of 18 cm and in a 2/3-1/3 split. The backrests can be tilted to 4 positions and in the central armrest a double cup holder conceals, at its end, a groove that can accommodate a smartphone or tablet so that passengers also have their dose of screen which will be easy to remove. recharge via USB-C type sockets located on the rear of the center console.

The transmission tunnel essential for the 4Motion versions – which will not be on the program in – hampers the legs a little for the central seat.

The 7 seater is not compatible with hybridization

The Tayron will be available in both 5 and 7 seater versions, although this second configuration is not compatible with plug-in hybrid engines. (see below), because the fuel tank has migrated under the bottom of the trunk, the floor accommodating the batteries. We took a seat in the third row by simply tilting the backrest of row 2 then sliding the seat. A two-step operation, unlike the Peugeot 5008 which benefits from an easy entry system where the maneuver requires only a single gesture.

Once installed, two adults over 1.75 m will find the ceiling too low and will travel with their knees almost in their chins. As you will have understood, these are extra places to be reserved for young children. But its predecessor Tiguan Allspace and its cousins Seat Tarraco and Skoda Kodiaq did not do better.

The carrying capacity of the Volkswagen Tayron is 345 liters in 7 seats, 850 liters in 5 seats when row 3 is folded and 1,905 liters in 2 seats.© Volkswagen

The carrying capacity of the Volkswagen Tayron is 345 liters in 7 seats, 850 liters in 5 seats when row 3 is folded and 1,905 liters in 2 seats. More spacious in the hold, the 5-seater Tayron has 885 liters under the shelf and up to 2,090 liters in a two-seater. Finally, to be complete on this chapter, the rechargeable hybrid versions, which do not have a double bottom, just a small housing to slide in the charging cable, carry 705 and 1,915 liters respectively.

It’s not just the hybrid that’s available, the diesel is still in place

The range of engines for the VW Tayron unsurprisingly revolves around the 1.5 eTSI micro hybrid engine in a 150 hp version, the 130 hp version offered on the Tiguan is not relevant here. Two plug-in hybrid variants with 204 and 272 hp and whose range in electric mode, according to the manufacturer, exceeds 100 km will appeal to corporate fleets as well as to those considering the use of an electric vehicle for the week . Finally, heavy drivers will opt for the proven 2.0 TDI 150 hp unit.. The starting price of the Volkswagen Tayron is €49,990. Four finishing levels will be on the program, called Life Plus, R-Line, Elegance and R-Line Exclusive.
