The Supreme Court authorizes the reactivation of X in Brazil

The decision was taken by judge Alexandre de Moraes, after receiving a favorable opinion from the Attorney General of the Republic confirming that no legal obstacle prevented the resumption of the activities of X, which has 22 million users in the giant from Latin America.

The company fulfilled the required conditions: blocking accounts disseminating false information, appointing a legal representative in Brazil and paying $5 million in fines. The National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) was also ordered to take the necessary measures to restore service throughout the country.

However, the process could take time due to the complexity of the different operators’ systems, with the country having more than 20,000 internet service providers, both fixed and mobile.

In his decision, Moraes stressed that the resumption of activities is strictly conditioned on full compliance with Brazilian legislation and “absolute observance of the decisions of the judicial power, in respect of national sovereignty”.

This lifting of the suspension marks a new episode in a long dispute between magistrate Alexandre de Moraes and American billionaire Elon Musk, owner of X, which has lasted for several months.
