Two friends thrown from a plane because they wore crop tops

Two friends experienced an incident that they will remember for a long time, Friday, at the Los Angeles airport (California). Teresa Araujo and her friend Tara were supposed to go to New , Louisiana to celebrate a friend’s birthday, but the trip didn’t go as planned. The 34-year-old traveler and her companion had just boarded a Spirit Airlines plane when a steward approached them, demanding that they “get dressed”.

The two women wore jeans and a crop top, and had a jacket on hand, explains the “Sun”. Stunned, Teresa put on her sweater, but it was so hot in the cabin that she ended up taking it off again. Upset, the steward returned to the charge. “Put on your coat, I’m not going to ask you again,” he threatened. When Teresa asked to see the airline’s clothing regulations, the employee raised his voice again. “You will see what will happen!” he got angry.

The plane returned to the gate, so Teresa and Tara could be disembarked. Under the incredulous gaze of the other passengers, who were all on the side of the two travelers, a manager announced to them that they were going to have to get out of the plane, the steward having insisted that this happen. “Other passengers got involved and tried to defend us, but the manager told us that if we didn’t leave the plane, the police would have to intervene,” Teresa says on TikTok.

Although the company had promised them that they would be redirected to another flight, the two friends found themselves very helpless. “At the airport, it was explained to us that when someone is kicked off a plane, there is no refund or reassignment to another flight. The police themselves said that we were right and that we should not have left the plane. According to her, we should have waited for the officers to arrive and that we had to take the company to court,” testifies the thirty-year-old.

Teresa had to pay 850 francs more to book another flight, scheduled five hours later. She claims that she and her friend did not say anything offensive to the flight attendants and that they had not drunk alcohol. According to her, sixteen other passengers filed a claim with Spirit Airlines after this incident. “Our contract of carriage, a document that all customers agree to when they make a reservation with us, includes certain dress standards for all customers who travel with us,” said the company, which said it was investigating the incident.
