59% against the ban on gasoline cars: “the figures speak for themselves”

Survey data published by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, which shows that nearly 6 in 10 Canadians are against banning the sale of gasoline-powered vehicles in 2035, puts the federal government’s back against the wall regarding its desire to moving forward with the project, according to the organization’s director.

“Canadians want to keep the choice of vehicle with which they can travel,” underlines Nicolas Gagnon, affirming that “the figures speak for themselves.”

According to the survey published earlier this week, nearly 59% of respondents reject the measure, while only 29% support it.

“In fact, the vast majority of Canadians are opposed to this ban on the sale of new gasoline and diesel vehicles for 2035,” he explained in an interview with LCN on Saturday.

“What is unfortunate, however, is that Justin Trudeau’s government plans to move forward anyway,” he added.

The game plan put forward by Ottawa regarding the implementation of transportation electrification presents numerous problems, according to Mr. Gagnon who believes that the costs associated with the project risk being astronomical.

“There is a report that was tabled by the Department of Natural Resources of Canada last spring which shows that this policy, therefore this transition to electric cars, could cost Canada around $300 billion by 2040. “, he explained.

There are also the sums that must be invested in order to upgrade the electricity network.
