Camtel denounces the sabotage of its fiber optic network

Camtelthe Cameroonian public operator, is concerned about the increase in incidents on its national fiber optic network since September 20, leading to a decline in the quality of service.

The head of the institutional and digital communications division of Camtel, Eric Benjamin Lameredeclared that the operator’s recent optical fiber cuts are the consequence of acts of vandalism. “At first glance, these are intentional acts aimed at calling into question his [Camtel] ability to provide a quality electronic communications service in Cameroon”revealed Mr. Lamere. He said Camtel teams were on the ground and working to restore the connection as quickly as possible.

Officials say Camtel’s fiber optic network has been interrupted 17 times since September due to vandalism. Camtel has a monopoly on the deployment and management of the national fiber optic network, which extends over more than 12,000 kilometers. In addition to its aerial and terrestrial fiber optic links, Camtel has access to four submarine cables, which it sells to other operators for data connectivity.
