In Luxembourg: More than 20 years of salary to buy a 100 m² home

Where is buying a home most affordable in the European Union? A recently published report attempted to answer the question by taking into account real estate prices, but also average salary, inflation and real mortgage interest rates (Editor’s note: adjusted for inflation) .

According to the BestBrokers report, spotted by our colleagues atEuronewsDenmark is the EU country where the purchase of a 100 m² home is the most affordable. It would take the Danes 114 months of average salary to access this type of property. Next come Ireland (123 months) and Sweden (129 months). Belgium (132 months) is more affordable than Germany (185 months) and (197 months).

Unsurprisingly, Luxembourg is far behind, but is not last in the ranking: according to this study, it would take 246 months of average salary (i.e. a little more than 20 years) to buy a 100 m² home. It is less worse than in Slovenia (261 months), the Czech Republic (274 months) and Slovakia (297 months).

If we look on a global scale, it is in South Africa that such housing is the most affordable (71 months of average salary) and in Nepal that it is the most inaccessible (684 months, or 57 years) .
