many BNP customers have experienced the same problem as Antoine at Colruyt, “a moment of embarrassment”

It was an unpleasant surprise that Antoine, a young 35-year-old from Brabançon, informed us of via the red Alert us button. A BNP Paribas customer for years, he experienced an embarrassing moment this Tuesday, October 1 in the morning when paying for his groceries.

“That day, I went to Collect&Go in Colruyt to collect my shopping. Before I went there, I realized that I didn’t have enough money on my debit card, so I topped it up through the app,” he explains.

“Once I arrived there, I paid for part of my purchases via meal vouchers, but I still had around twenty euros to pay via Bancontact. Except that when paying, the card was not swiped, it was indicated that the balance was insufficient,” he explains.

An uncomfortable situation, which many people fear being faced with. Especially since Antoine had no backup solution. “It was inconvenient because it was impossible to pay by Visa or cash, payment had to be made by card,” testifies the young man, confronted with the same problem a little later when picking up some missing products at the Neighboring Colruyt. However, it was far from having exceeded the normally authorized spending limit. Worse, he had, in the meantime, replenished his account with several hundred euros.

A technical problem causing the incident

Contacted on this subject, BNP reacted. “When making debit card payments, the account balance is normally checked in real time. Following a technical incident that occurred on October 1, during a card payment, the account balance was checked with the balance at 4 a.m.,” explains the bank, which specifies however that the period of time during which this problem occurred and remained very limited. However, many customers have been affected by this issue.

Incessant comings and goings in the BNP Paribas agency while all the employees were on leave: here’s what really happened

“We apologize to customers who have suffered inconvenience,” the bank agency also said.
