the Ineco-CID consortium wins a major contract

The Spanish consortium Ineco and CID has won a major contract in Morocco to carry out railway studies between Tangier and Tetouan. This project marks a turning point for Ineco, which thus signs its largest contract in the country, strengthening its presence in the Moroccan infrastructure market.

Morocco has just taken a new step in the development of its rail network with the selection of the Spanish consortium Ineco and CID to carry out feasibility studies and preliminary projects for an urban rail service linking Tangier to Tetouan. This project, which is part of the Kingdom’s 2040 Rail Strategy, represents a major opportunity for the infrastructure sector in Spain, with Ineco at the forefront.

Indeed, for Ineco, a Spanish public company under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport, this contract is the largest ever obtained in Morocco. Already present in the country with projects linked to the airport, notably the redevelopment of Ibn Batouta airport in Tangier, this new order considerably strengthens its position within the Moroccan market. Sergio Vázquez Torrón, president of Ineco, highlighted the importance of this project, stating: “This contract represents our first major railway project in Morocco and consolidates our presence in the country. This is a significant step for Ineco, and we hope it will pave the way for new opportunities for the Spanish rail industry.”.

The railway project between Tangier and Tetouan provides for the construction of more than 85 kilometers of new railway line, intended to improve passenger transport capacity on medium-distance journeys. The commissioned studies will also focus on the creation of a strategic railway line that will connect Tangier city center to major infrastructure such as the city’s football stadium and airport.

The involvement of Ineco and CID in this project is part of an increased competitive dynamic with , traditionally well established in infrastructure projects in Morocco. This contract could thus mark a turning point in favor of Spanish engineering in the region. In addition, Morocco, via the National Railway Office (ONCF), seeks to develop a dense and interconnected railway network to meet growing mobility needs by 2040, thus strengthening the scope of projects such as that from Tangier-Tetouan.

It should be remembered that Ineco won the international call for tenders for the complete restructuring of the infrastructure of the Mohammed V international airport. The Spanish company will thus set up an aviation development program and terminals of this airport. This program includes analyzing current problems and designing the infrastructure needed to handle future traffic. The company has a specialized team in areas such as terminal design, business development, rail and road infrastructure maintenance, and baggage and conveyor belt system design.
