The French market falls by 11%

The new car market in recorded a further decline in September 2024, marking five consecutive months of decline. According to the Automotive Platform (PFA), which brings together manufacturers and equipment manufacturers, 139,004 vehicles were registered, a drop of 11.07% compared to September 2023.

Since the start of the year, the French automobile market has seen its registrations fall by 1.76%, with a total of 1,265,905 new vehicles sold during the first nine months of 2024.

The Stellantis group, leader of the French market, recorded a significant drop of 17.52%, with a market share of 25.92%. Its emblematic brands, Citroën and Opel, are particularly affected. Renault group also shows a drop of 14.27%, now holding 24.37% of the market.

On the other hand, some manufacturers are more resistant to this negative trend. The Volkswagen group recorded an increase of 4.30% while Toyota saw its registrations jump by 19.23%, driven by the success of its hybrid models.

This dynamic reflects a rapidly changing French automobile market, where historic brands are facing new challenges, notably the evolution towards more ecological vehicles, while manufacturers focusing on hybrid and electric are benefiting from this transformation.
