(Keystone-ATS) The retail sector in Switzerland saw its turnover continue to increase in August, especially in the food and electronics sectors, the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) announced on Tuesday as part of its monthly statement.

The total revenue of Swiss retailers increased by 2.1% year-on-year and in nominal terms (not adjusted for inflation). Adjusted for the rise in prices, they increased by 3.5%, detailed federal statisticians.

Excluding gas stations and volatile fuel prices, sales increased by 2.2% in nominal terms and 3.6% in real terms, respectively.

Compared to the previous month, however, the increase in turnover was more limited. Revenues thus only increased by 0.2% in nominal terms and 0.4% in real terms. IT and communications products showed a clear decline compared to July, of 1.5% and 1.6% respectively, while cultural and leisure goods were particularly sought after (+1.7% and +2%). ).
