The French automotive supplier Novares will close its Ostwald site, near Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin), leading to the loss of its 122 jobs, we learned on Monday from a union source.
Two meetings of the central then local Social and Economic Committee (CSE) scheduled for October 8 and 9 should initiate the closure process and set its timetable, following the announcement of this project during the CSE meeting last week, indicated the representatives of the CGT-FO-CFTC inter-union association.
They called for a demonstration on Tuesday to demand the maintenance of the site which manufactures plastic parts for vehicle interior trim. If the decision comes in a context of difficulties in the automobile market, the unions believe that the Alsatian factory has been “sidelined” by their group.
“We have been sidelined since 2018 to win new markets,” assured Isabelle Weber, CFTC delegate. This situation leads to “the gradual arrival at the end of the life of contracts”, she continued.
The “last hope”, according to the inter-union, lay in possible orders from the British manufacturer Ineos, but these were not obtained, she said.
Novares, which produces plastic components and assemblies for automobiles, has 37 factories in 22 countries for a turnover of 1.2 billion euros in 2023, according to its website. His management could not be reached.
