The day of September 20 did not start off very well for commuters from Aubonne who, after waiting a while for their usual bus, ended up realizing that it would never come.

“Although it is not frequent, we are sometimes forced to cancel certain races due to a last-minute lack of staff,” confirms PostBus. In addition, vehicle breakdowns may occur, which may lead us to cancel trips while waiting for the broken down vehicle to be replaced.”

In this case, that morning, all buses scheduled for 5:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. had to be canceled due to an employee who fell ill during the night. “If there is no replacement, we are forced to cancel certain races which are the least frequented,” the company specifies. We inform travelers via Railinfo SBB of the cancellations of these journeys. We recommend that travelers always check real-time information before departure.”

The absenteeism rate among drivers is it higher than usual? Not particularly, replies the transport company. But the risk cannot be completely ruled out. “All it takes is for us to be confronted with a virus for employees to transmit it to each other, which can lead to a higher rate of absenteeism.”

“Increased” competition

CarPostal also highlights the presence of several transport companies in the region, such as TPN, TL, MBC or TPG. “Currently, we are witnessing a significant development in the public transport offer, which requires us to face increased competition,” notes the company. This situation can lead to driver shortages.”

To support its growth and respond to this growing demand, “the yellow class” benefits from a training center “dedicated to the preparation of new drivers who wish to reorient their careers”.

Around twenty drivers are currently being recruited in the Lake Geneva region, in order to compensate for the increase in supply expected with the next timetable change.
