In bankruptcy proceedings, the American plastic utensil company built its reputation in the 60s and 70s with home sales, which are now outdated. Saleswomen and former participants recall the spirit of these “Tup” meetings.

Tupperware – pronounced “teupeurouaire”. For a whole generation of women, now in their fourth years, the name of this American company, the originator of the famous plastic containers used for storing food, brings back happy memories. “These boxes have really made my life easier! says Joseline, 83, who also insists on the pronunciation of the brand name. We went on camping holidays with our trailer tent. We had coolers and I took my boxes for salad, bread or meat. The food stayed intact for several days and did not take on the taste of plastic. The “tups” also withstood temperature changes without becoming spoiled. If the Vendée native is full of praise for these plastic containers, it is because, from the end of the 70s to the end of the 80s, she was an “ambassador” – meaning saleswoman and instructor – for the company, which gained popularity thanks to direct sales at home during dedicated meetings at a hostess’s home, generally in the afternoon.
