Northvolt’s financial difficulties | Legault government meets with Swedish ambassador

(Quebec) The Legault government will meet with the Swedish ambassador on Wednesday, as the Swedish company Northvolt is experiencing financial difficulties that could compromise its battery factory project in Montérégie.

“I guess that [Northvolt] “This is going to be a topic that will be discussed,” said the Minister Delegate for the Economy, Christopher Skeete, who was tasked with meeting Signe Fenja Burgstaller.

The Minister Delegate seemed more or less prepared. However, he added that he had “no idea” about the subject she wanted to “talk about”, adding that, “honestly, there is no specific subject we are going to talk about”.

The interview will take place as bad omens pile up over Northvolt’s plans.

Northvolt had to readjust its strategic plan to reduce costs, focusing solely on the manufacture of battery cells.

The company assured that it “maintains its commitments” for the construction of the three other major projects, including the cell factory in Montérégie, but that it will reveal the new schedule later this fall.
