Forbes: Three Moroccans Among MENA Region’s Health Leaders

Three Moroccan personalities stand out in the ranking of the 100 global health leaders for 2024, published by Forbes Middle EastThese figures play a key role in the development of the pharmaceutical and medical industry sector in Morocco, thus consolidating the Kingdom’s position on the international scene.

Lamia Tazi (36e), President and CEO of Sothema, is one of the Moroccan personalities present in this ranking. Under her leadership, Sothema launched more than 20 new products in 2023 and signed major agreements with the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health to promote innovation and research in the pharmaceutical sector. Thanks to these initiatives, the company generated $254 million in revenue in 2023, strengthening its position in national and international markets.

Ayman Cheikh-Lahlou (40e), CEO of Cooper Pharma, is also included in this ranking. Since his arrival in 2000, he has contributed to the company’s expansion beyond Moroccan borders. In 2023, Cooper Pharma acquired a Sanofi plant in Saudi Arabia and established Cooper Pharma Arabia, ensuring local production for the Gulf countries. Cheikh-Lahlou is also vice president of the Moroccan Federation of Pharma, where he continues to promote the development of the sector.

Driss Chaoui (86e), CEO of Afric-Phar, completes the list of Moroccans. He has played a key role in the company’s growth since 2001 and is also Secretary General of the Moroccan Association of Generic Medicines. Under his management, Afric-Phar has positioned itself as a key player in the production of generic medicines, meeting public health needs in Morocco and Africa.
