The city council wants 50 km/h on the ring road by October 1, but can it decide alone?

in 20 days – On October 1, motorists will have to brake on the ring road, which will go from 70 to 50 km/h, announced Anne Hidalgo

Anne Hidalgo speeds up… to slow down better. The day after the closing ceremony of the Paralympic Games, the mayor of Paris confirmed the upcoming reduction in speed on the ring road, from 70 to 50 km/h.

The suspense was not so much about the measure, which has been in the pipeline for a (long) time, but about its effective date. In an interview with the newspaper West France On August 31, the socialist elected official had set the application of this new rule for “during October”. This Monday morning, Anne Hidalgo specified the timetable. The measure will apply on October 1.

Many reviews

Problem: everyone (or almost) is against it. On the State side, the former Minister of Transport Clément Beaune spoke at the end of 2023 of “aberration”. And his successor, Patrice Vergriete, said in May “not to be in favor of the debate as it stands”. The Region, led by Valérie Pécresse (LR), will file a motion on Wednesday calling on the city hall to give up and “reaffirms its desire to have the management competence of the ring road transferred to it”.

This is without counting the Paris police prefecture. Contacted by 20 Minutesshe deplores “planned consultations not carried out to their conclusion” in a letter addressed to the town hall on 30 (…) - 20minutes
