Europa-Park regains its title of “best amusement park in the world”

The amusement park located in Germany, near the French border, receives this distinction for the 9th time, after being briefly dethroned in 2023 by an American competitor. Its new attraction was also rewarded.

The best amusement park in the world is still in Germany, right next to the French border. Europa-Park, located in Rust, received this title for the ninth time at the Golden Ticket Awards, an awards ceremony of the newspaper Amusement Todayone of the most prestigious in the amusement park sector. The park received this title every year from 2014 to 2022 (except in 2020, a blank year due to Covid-19), before being briefly dethroned last year by Dollywood, a competitor from Tennessee, owned (in part) by the American singer Dolly Parton. The latter consoles itself with the title of “most beautiful park in the world”.

Europa-Park was also rewarded for its new Voltron Nevera roller coaster, which opened in April and was crowned “best new coaster in the world”. The steepest ride in the world, top speed of 90 km/h, seven inversions, a generous 1.4 km course… The attraction designed by Mack Rides, the family manufacturer that also owns the park, wanted to break records, with success. It takes place in a brand new themed area, which takes visitors to Croatia.

6 million visitors in 2023

The park finally received a third award during the ceremony, a «Turnstyle award» for the reconstruction of its Austria area, destroyed by a fire in 2023. The sets and the two attractions that run through them were brought back to life in less than a year. Michael Mack, one of the bosses of Europa-Park, said «honoré» of these three awards, in particular the one received for Voltron Nevera which “highlights the creative strength of the Mack Group and shows that we are setting new standards, not only in Germany and Europe, but also worldwide”.

With 6 million entries in 2023, including many French people, Europa-Park is the second most visited amusement park on the Old Continent, behind the giant Disneyland Paris. Already equipped with themed hotels, the tourist complex was completed in 2019 by an indoor water park Rulantica, which welcomed 1.2 million visitors last year. The site also serves as a showcase for the Mack family, who can demonstrate their attractions to potential buyers.

The three European park awards are a near exception in these Golden Ticket Awards, which are mostly dominated by American parks. On the Old Continent, only two other parks have been rewarded: the German Phantasialand for its Chiapas attraction, which remains the “Best Water Attraction” ten years after its opening, and the British Alton Towers, which received a “renaissance price” for Nemesis Reborn, a complete rebuild of its hugely popular suspended roller coaster that opened in the 1990s.
