Beware of those magnets slipped into your mailbox, it’s a scam

Several town halls are calling for vigilance against a scam that is spreading in certain towns in the Gard. Magnets, with an official appearance with blue, white, red or black edges, are being distributed in mailboxes. These magnets, entitled “Useful numbers”, mention contacts for emergencies and public services, but also numbers for home repair operators. Except that behind the latter, there are often abusive canvassing companies.

Several municipalities have alerted their residents about these misleading magnets, information relayed in particular by Le Midi Libre. Despite their reassuring appearance and careful presentation, these supports are in no way authorized by the public authorities. They use colors and a format that can give a false impression of authenticity, but it is strongly recommended not to dial the troubleshooting numbers displayed.

Behind these numbers, there are often unscrupulous companies that use aggressive and unfair sales methods. They put strong pressure on consumers to encourage them to buy services that are often unnecessary or at exorbitant prices. These practices include abusive telephone canvassing, misleading advertising, and emergency interventions billed at excessive prices.
