How to address land degradation and restore resources? Since Thursday, the 10th African Ministerial Conference on the Environment has been held in Abidjan. A high-level meeting organized with the United Nations, the African Union and the African Development Bank and which aims to harmonize African positions to restore ecosystems and combat droughts.

With our correspondent in Abidjan, Vignette Diagne

For the ministers, the challenge of this meeting is twofold: it is about taking stock of the commitments made at COP15 on desertification in 2022, in Abidjan. And to prepare for COP29 in Baku.

At the podium, Simon Stiell, the executive secretary of UN Climate Change, sets the tone, reports our journalist Vignette Diagne : « In Baku, we must finally make international carbon markets work under Article 6. We must operationalize the Loss and Damage Fund. And we must ensure that adaptation goals are delivered, financed and can be met. »
