A man was shot dead by German police in Munich. Carrying a long gun, he fired several shots near the Israeli Consulate General and the documentation center on the history of National Socialism. The police returned fire, killing the suspect. At first, the police spoke of a probable attempted attack, while remaining cautious about the young man’s motivations for carrying out the act. Then, late in the afternoon, the authorities spoke of a “terrorist attack.”
